The Know-It-All: One Man’s Humble Quest to Become the Smartest Person in the World
Started reading The Know-It-All: One Man’s Humble Quest to Become the Smartest Person in the World by A.J. Jacobs a few days before going to DEM, and finished it a few days after getting home from it. It’s about this guy that decides to continue a quest his father once started but never finished, namely to read the whole Encyclopaedia Britannica from A to Z. It was quite funny, I pretty much laughed to myself every other page. The book is written chronologically as he goes through Britannica, with small facts about this and that, so it’s sort of a mini encyclopaedia on its own. He interleaves the facts with small stories from his life as he goes on Who Wants to Be A Millionaire, visits Mensa meetings and that sort of things. It’s these stories, entwined with the facts he has accumulated, that makes for a great read. You can check out the writing style and such in this small preview if you’d like to.
